Florida Reports First Case Of Baby Born With Microcephaly

Tuesday, the Florida authorities reported its first case of a baby born with the birth defect microcephaly.

The Florida Department of Health confirmed that a Zika-infected child was born in Florida whose mother had a travel-related case of Zika.

The mother, a citizen of Haiti, came to Florida to deliver her baby. The department said it is working with the family to connect the child to services through its Early Steps program.

CDC recommends that women who are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant postpone travel to Zika affected areas.

A statement from Governor Rick Scott's office confirmed the news.
