OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma weather can be brutal on certain plants, flowers and shrubs.

Choosing the best Boxwoods will be your best bet.

4Your Garden Guru Linda Vater says there are different varieties of Boxwoods.

Vater says out of all of those choices, the one people in Oklahoman are the most familiar with is the one you shouldn’t attempt to grow here. That variety would be the English Boxwood.

The English Boxwood cannot tolerate the Sooner State heat or the dry, windy winters.

But there are several other varieties that will thrive in Oklahoma.

She says the Japanese Boxwood is a good choice as are the Wintergreen, Green Velvet, Winter Gem, Baby Gem, American Boxwood and Green Beauty (or Green Mountain). All are available at most regional garden stores and nurseries.
