Analysis Paralysis by Anete Melece, wins the Animated Grand Prix for its colorful and bold approach.
BRISTOL, UK -- Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival has announced the winners of its 2016 edition with Brady Hood taking the Brief Grand Prix Award for Sweet Maddie Stone. The story itself utilizes humor and drama to tell of a young protagonist desperate for tenderness in a world which requires her to focus on survival alone. The Animated Grand Prix was awarded to Anete Melece for Analysis Paralysis. The jury was charmed by the colorful, bold, naive and impressionistic approach to life.
Twenty-three awards were given at the Awards Ceremony, as well as two nominations. The European Film Association nomination went to Issa Touma, Thomas Vroege and Floor van der Meulen for 9 Days from My Window in Aleppo. A film is described as both timely and timeless. The film follows the beginning of a war from the lens of a poet. This film is about a homeland, a wasteland and wanting to stay but needing to leave.
The Cartoon d'Or nomination went to David Dell'Edera for Balcony. Balcony is a film that catches the viewer by surprise, building a tension that leads to an unexpected conclusion.
Watershed’s DepicT! Award 2015, which showcases 90 second films was won by Petra Balekic for Impacts. Impacts is a film with bold visuals and an outstanding soundtrack which manages to speak volumes in such a short time-frame.
The festival screened 231 films in competition across three days, featuring animated and live action short films from around the world. More than 150 nominated filmmakers attended the festival to see their films on the silver screen and take part in industry events and screenings.
