Locals have been given the chance to run the rule over revised plans for an 11-turbine wind farm near Bridge of Cally.

Developer ABO Wind has announced scaled-back proposals for the mooted Green Burn Wind Farm, which would be situated on land at Shieldrum and Blackhall farms – approximately 11 kilometres north-west of Alyth and five kilometres north-east of Bridge of Cally.

Key elements of the re-worked blueprint include a reduction in blade tip height from 126.5 metres to 115 metres, reduced hub heights from 80 metres to 69 metres, revised turbine locations within the site and an additional 500 metres of tracks to access the new turbine locations and avoid sensitive habitats such as peatland.

The new design has been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council in the form of Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) and will be used to tweak the developer’s original planning application, sent to the local authority in September last year.

ABO Wind has said the changes will be on display at an information day to be held at Bridge of Cally Hall from 12.30-6.30pm on Thursday, October 6.

Clark Crosbie, head of development at ABO Wind UK, said: “We encourage all those interested in our proposals to come along and view the revised design.

“Since submitting our original planning application, we have been working closely with all consultees and Perth and Kinross Council, listening carefully to their views.

“We believe the revised design takes account of this feedback and responds positively to comments raised in relation to landscape and visual effects, and also addresses telecoms and aviation radar issues identified by consultees.”

He added: “The revised design for Green Burn Wind Farm consists of smaller turbines with the aim of appearing more consistent in size and spacing with the operational Drumderg Wind Farm.

“The shorter turbines also result in the array sitting lower above the landform, closer to the skyline of the site when seen from the surrounding area.”

Perth and Kinross Council will carry out a full consultation exercise on the SEI in due course.
