There are some beautiful spots in and around Reading for a long and muddy dog walk.

The problem is, all the walking is thirsty work and once you're done, you need to find somewhere dog-friendly to go for a drink.

1. The Sun Inn

Even though it is a town centre pub, dogs of all sizes are welcome.

There is also a suitable garden with water bowls for dogs too.

For owners, the historic English pub serves a range of ales.

2. The Castle Tap

The pub offers four real ales, three craft beers and a dog-friendly environment including water and treats in abundance - for both dogs and their owners!

3. Nags Head

This CAMRA award-winning pub often has regular drinkers with their dogs. There's a simple bar menu and water bowls for the dogs on request. However, there's no garden.

6. Hop Leaf

This pub has a great selection of beers, and it is very welcoming of dogs.

7. The Prince of Wales

Walk along the River Thames before popping into The Sun for a refreshing drink and a relax.

The pub has its own cats and dogs so welcomes well-behaved animals.

17. The Spring Inn

This gastro pub has an impressive menu with lots of traditional pub food. It's dog friendly but gets busy, so book in advance.

18. The Horse and Groom

Serving up great food, the Horse and Groom is more than just a pub - and it is dog friendly.

19. The Greyhound

Where: Gallowstree Road, Rotherfield Peppard, Henley, RG9 5HT

Owned by Antony Worrall Thompson has a beautiful menu varying from pub classics to Thai.

You can't take dogs into the main restaurant area but they will bring food out to the bar where dogs are allowed if you'd like to eat.

20. The Bull Inn

This historic pub with outdoor seating, cosy fire lit corners and a mouth-watering menu happily welcomes pets.

21. The Butchers Arms

Where: Blounts Court Road, Reading, RG4 9RS

Staff at The Butchers Arms keep a jar of dog treats behind the bar for furry friends.

Not only that, but the pub is also horse friendly with a set of halting rails outsider for anybody riding by.

Another pub surrounded by country tracks and hills. Pop in first or go to the pub's website to grab a map for a nice dog walk.

24. The Reformation

Inside feels cosy with log fires to warm you up after a long walk, while outside there's loads of space for dogs to run around and get there paws muddy.

25. The Alehouse

On the corner of Broad Street, among a cluster of coffee shops, The Alehouse boasts one of the widest ranges of draught and bottled beers in the Reading area.

Dogs are always welcome and water bowls are always on offer.

26. The Greyfriar

The Greyfriar is a traditional English ale pub, which is just a short walk from Reading Station.

One of the bar staff said: "We always welcome dogs with water and treats. We have a few blind regulars who come in with their guide dogs and we cater to their needs too."

Reading's Pub of the Year 2013 has a secluded beer garden that's perfect for pooches.

28. The Three Tuns

The Three Tuns caters for children and canines.

Walkers can kick off their boots inside or outside on the patio garden and indulge in some home-cooked food and wine.

29. The Elm Tree

Dog walkers who are willing to wander a little further into the wilderness can take a break at The Elm Tree and enjoy the picturesque views.

Thirsty dogs will be welcomed with a bowl of water and cold canines can stretch out in front of one of the three open fires in the barn.

30. The Rowbarge

Walkers can find this pub on the corner of Fairfield Park. Dogs can enjoy water and biscuits while owners can treat themselves to some Thai cuisine.
