BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Entering the day tied for the lead with No. 15 West Florida, Florida Tech came out of the gates strong Tuesday to put some distance between itself and the Argonauts and never looked back.
The Panthers shot a three-over 585 at the The Members Club at Woodcreek to win the NCAA Regional Preview by ten strokes.
Brittany LaPadula and Guro Rambjoer led the pack for FIT, with LaPadula claiming the individual title and Rambjoer coming in second.
The duo finished Tuesday’s round tied with West Florida’s Paloma Vaccaro at one-under. The 18th hole was used to break the tie.
Vaccaro held a two shot lead heading to the final hole but recorded a double bogey on 18. With LaPadula shooting a par and Rambjoer carding a bogey, the Argo junior had to settle for third.
Sarah Thomas held the individual lead for a period of time Tuesday but struggled through the round. However, despite seven bogeys the senior still managed to tie for eighth at five-over.
Paola Ortiz finished in a tie for 13th, bouncing back from a 79 in round one with a second round score of 72, finishing out the tournament at seven-over. Lucy Eaton fired a 77 in round two, carding a 14-over 158 to come in tied for 36.
Tuesday’s action concludes the fall season for the Panthers, who return to the links Feb. 7-8 at the Flagler hosted World Golf Invitational in St. Augustine, Florida.
