BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Department of Health is investigating three cases in which young people in Blacksburg have experienced a sudden decrease in liver function.

New River Health District spokesman Bobby Parker told the Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/2gpvGyg ) Thursday that none of the three people have died.

Parker says there are no clear connections between the three cases and no evidence of any elevated risk the public.

He says the cause of the illness is undetermined and declined to say when exactly the people, all under the age of 25, got sick.

Virginia Tech said in a statement that it is working with the health district and health care providers to investigate. The school’s statement says the three patients were all previously healthy.
