After three long years of chase, the ATM attacker of Bengaluru is finally in the custody of the police.

The accused, identified as Madhukar Reddy was arrested by Chittor police of Andhra Pradesh from Nimmanapalliki village under Madanapalle division.

Confirming the arrest, Chittoor SP G Srinivas said that Madhukar Reddy, who was earlier convicted in a murder case by a local court in 2005, had absconded in 2011. He had again committed a murder in 2013 in Dharmavaram of Andhra Pradesh. Again he had attacked the lady in a Bengaluru ATM.

"We have arrested him and seeking his custody for further investigation as in initial interrogation he has confessed about several other crimes in Andhra, Karnataka and Telangana," Srinivas said.

The alleged assailant had attracted the attention of police and media in 2013 when on November 19 he had brutally attacked Jothi Uday, a bank manager, inside a bank ATM of Bengaluru.

The CCTV camera inside the Corporation Bank ATM located near Corporation Circle of the city had captured the assailant threatening the 44-year-old bank employee with a machete and telling her to withdraw cash. After her refusal and retaliation the attacker had struck her and left her bleeding before fleeing with her bag.

The assailant had also pulled the ATM shutter down so that no one would find out about the attack. Since then the Bengaluru police was on hunt to nab the accused and a reward of Rs 10 Lakh was announced by the then City Police Commissioner MN Reddi.

During the investigation it was found that the accused has an Andhra Pradesh connection and hence both the state police had joined hands to nab the attacker.

Speaking to India Today, Andhra Pradesh DGP N. Sambashiva Rao confirmed the arrests and said that it a massive success of state police as the accused was wanted in several other murder cases in the state.
