In a major breakthrough, the Chittoor police arrested the accused in the sensational attack on a woman bank employee at an ATM kiosk in Bengaluru in November 2013.

He was moving suspiciously along the cross roads on Madanapalle town outskirts in Chittoor district.

His arrest has put an end to the 1,170-day-long hunt for him involving the police of Karnataka, A.P., Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Superintendent of Police of Chittoor Ghattamaneni Srinivas told media persons on Saturday that the arrested man, K. Madhukar Reddy (43) of Uddaladoddi village of Tamballapale constituency in Chittoor district, was involved in several other crimes. He was presented before the media.

Mr. Srinivas said that as part of the regular verification of the “out of view” (OV) criminals and history-sheeters, special parties were formed in the district in recent months.

Involved in murders

“During this process, Madhukar Reddy’s name figured in the OV criminals list. Based on information that he was frequenting some unspecified places in western mandals of the district and clandestinely going to neighbouring States, vigil was mounted on his movements and he was arrested in the early hours of today. During preliminary investigation, it was found that Madhukar Reddy was the man who attacked the woman at an ATM centre in Bengaluru three years ago, ” Mr. Srinivas said.

During interrogation, it was further revealed that Madhukar Reddy was also involved in the murder of a woman at Dharmavaram in Anantapur district in 2010; a murder for gain in Piler; murder of a sex worker at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, all done in recent years.

Madhukar Reddy’s history also pointed to his dabbling in clandestine deal of explosives a decade ago.

In 2005, he murdered his rival by throwing a bomb at him at his native place. In this case he was arrested and was awarded life sentence.

While serving the term at the Kadapa Central Jail, he was taken to RIMS on health grounds the same year.
