BIJNOR: Villagers living on the banks of river Ganga have taken Akhilesh Yadav’s promise of building river embankments to prevent annual flooding with a pinch of salt. They claim that several political outfits have made this commitment before elections in the past. “The Samajwadi Party was voted to power five years ago. What did it do for us? Now, they (its leaders) are again making the same promises,” said Mahaveer Singh, a resident of Debalgarh village.
During poll campaigning in Bijnor on Wednesday, Akhilesh also talked about other local issues and appealed to voters to bring SP back to power.

Residents of 312 villages spread across Bijnor, Badapur, Najibabad and Dhampur constituencies have repeatedly urged the state administration to build river embankments to prevent annual flooding.
There are a dozen rivers including Ganga, Ramganag, Kho, Malan, Banaili, Dhara and Nakta in Bijnor district which pose danger for the villagers every year during monsoons.
