BIJNOR: Ahead of UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s arrival at a rally in Bijnor on Wednesday, a song describing the Peda riots was played at the venue for nearly an hour. The song extols the virtue of the local SP candidate, Ruchi Veera, terming her as a benefactor of the Muslims while BJP is projected as a party involved in polarising the people on the basis on religion.
In September 2016, four people had died and several were injured during communal clashes in Peda village.
Addressing the gathering in Bijnor, Akhilesh accepted that all is not well in the police department of the state. “There are some evils which are corroding the police department. If our government retains power, the evils will be removed,” the CM said.
The song goes: ‘Ruchi Veera ne himmat dikhae aur shahar ko jalne se bachaaya, Peda me pidito ke jakhmo par marham lagaayaa... (Ruchi Veera has shown courage and prevented the city from burning, applied balm to assuage the sufferings of the victims of Peda clashes)’. Some local SP leaders also recounted the Peda incident at the rally.
Reacting to the matter, district BJP president Rajeev Sisodia said, “Our party leader was framed in a false case in connection with the Peda incident. SP candidate Ruchi Veera is trying to raise this issue only to garner votes of a particular community. It is not fair.”
On Wednesday, Akhilesh Yadav addressed four rallies in Bijnor district, including Kiratpur, Bijnor, Noorpur and Dhampur constituencies, urging people to vote for SP so that the state can see rapid development. The CM claimed that his government has done much work for the welfare of all sections of society. According to sources, about 10,000 people attended the Bijnor rally, and about 70-80% of them were from the Muslim community.

Akhilesh also urged the gathering in Bijnor not to vote for BSP as “Buaji (Mayawti) has the propensity to ally with BJP, and she has done it in the past.” Taking a dig at PM Narendra Modi’s SCAM quip — which the PM said stood for 'SP, Congress, Akhilesh, Mayawati' — Akhilesh said, “I can understand why SP, Congress, Akhilesh were included but why was my buaji included? She had celebrated Rakshabandhan with BJP in the past. BJP had earlier sought the support of Buaji."
straight away accepted that shortcomings in Police department saying, “ There are some evils which are corroding the police department such as ‘lenden’. If our government retains the power again this evil will also be removed from the department. However, this time we have initiated hundred dial scheme for this purpose.”
