KOLKATA: Bankura police have claimed to have unearthed the exact circumstances under which Udayan Das allegedly murdered his live-in partner Akansha Sharma.
Udayan — who reportedly murdered both his parents — used identical methods to murder Akansha whom he claims to have married barely two weeks before the murder at a local temple. The statement of a mason and a chemist – both from Saketnagar in Bhopal – will hold clinching evidence for investigators, said sources.
On Friday, the cops also established – in great detail – how Udayan had laid out a three-month-long plan to try and eliminate the entire family of Akansha.
TOI was the first to have reported about such a plan by Udayan in its February 7 edition.
According to Bankura police sources, Udayan kept visiting Akansha – then residing at Delhi - since 2014. On each occasion, he had travelled from Bhopal but claimed before Akansha that he had travelled from the US.
“There is an App that can track flights taking off and landing across the globe. Udayan would choose any one flight from US and switch his phone to flight mode.
He switched back to normal mode once this flight reached Delhi even as he himself used a train to travel in between. This way Akansha never doubted him as he provided “proof” of his travel to her. But once she reached Bhopal, Akansha soon realized Udayan was a fake and that she had no hope of reaching US and getting her a coveted job. It was then that she decided to return home and arranged for a ticket on July 12, 2016.

That was the day Udayan decided to murder Akansha. He contacted a mason to create a well-type structure inside the house but dropped the idea. Instead, Udayan first faked a doctor’s prescription and then managed to buy two strips of sleeping pills. By this time, the couple were already arguing frequently.
“On the day of murder, July 15, 2016, the accused mixed her food and drinks with drugs. As Akansha lost consciousness, she was strangulated by Udayan. He then went and brought a trunk from the local market. Having put Akansha in the trunk, Udayan fetched two sacks of cement and stone-chips.
When he failed in his attempt to prepare the desired concrete mix, he fetched a mason from a nearby construction material store and asked him to mix the concrete. Udayan, however, forbade the later from entering his residence claiming that he wanted to prepare a stupa dedicated to Gods and no outsider is allowed. For the next two weeks, Udayan went about putting concrete to the trunk,” a source said.
Police sources maintained that Udayan got worried when his in-laws began trying to establish contact with Akansha, especially around September 2016. “Udayan came to Bankura and stayed here on both October 6 and 7 before leaving for Bhopal on October 8. During his stay, he kept telling Akansha’s parents Shivendra and Sahibala and brother Ayush to come to Bhopal where he will arrange for their visas so that they can travel to US along with him and Akansha. Udayan though could not convince them to come to Bhopal, the family choosing to visit Delhi instead. Obviously, Udayan never showed up there.
In the month of January, Udayan came up with another alternative plan. He kept telling Akansha’s family that Akansha would be visiting India along with him on January 21, 2017 and that they are expected to reach Bhopal the same day. He further claimed that Akansha did not wish to visit Bankura and hence as an alternative, her family might come to Bhopal. “But the family had grown suspicious by that time and rejected the offer,” claimed a source involved with the investigations.
“We do not know what Whatsapp message the girl’s family is hinting at. But Udayan has so far denied that he had ever sent out any message to Akansha’s family on her behalf claiming that Udayan had been murdered,” said a source.
