Medicos allege scam in recruitment of junior doctors at IIMS, Palakkad

The medicos, who also took to the social media, alleged the rank list prepared on the basis of the written test was manipulated.

KOTTAYAM: Giving the whiff of a major scam, medicos have alleged serious discrepancies in the recruitment of junior residents at the Institute of Integrated Medical Science (IIMS), Palakkad.
The IIMS functions under the Scheduled Castes Development Department(SCDD). Meanwhile, the probe conducted by Express on the basis of the documents obtained substantiated the charge.

The medicos, who also took to the social media, alleged the rank list prepared on the basis of the written test was manipulated when the final list had been published after the interview.

According to the documents, the candidate, who performed well in the written exam, failed to find a place in the final list. In fact, candidates, who secured the 95th and 96th ranks, figure in the final list.

“I secured 159 marks in the written exam and got the 11th rank. However, I was placed a lowly 75th after the interview. When I took up the matter with the college authorities, someone told me they were orders not to consider the results of the written exam while preparing the final list,” said Dr K Vinod Kumar, a candidate.

Significantly, the PSC was not entrusted with the recruitment process even though, the College functions under the SCDD. Instead, the recruitment for the vacancies of the 12 junior residents was conducted by a special  committee consisting of the director of medical education (DME) or the Joint DME, the IIMS principal, the finance officer and experts from the other medical colleges. The written test was conducted on January 22 and the interview was held on February 7 and 8. Following the written exam, 100 candidates were shortlisted for the interview.

According to the FB post by Dr Hari Raj,“Even though, it was notified as a permanent post, the recruitment was not conducted through the PSC. Moreover, while the PSC has set 80:20 ratio for the written test and the interview respectively, the authorities said the written test was conducted just for eliminating the candidates”.

Medical activist Dr P S Jinesh has demanded the cancellation of the list.He called for entrusting the PSC with the recruitment process. When contacted, DME Dr Ramla Beevi said the matter would be probed if there were complaints regarding the selection process.
