PUDUKKOTTAI : Mild tension prevailed when a sitting MLA was arrested after he tried to stage a road blockade along with his supporters on Saturday alleging that he was not invited for government functions in the region.


According to sources, Siva V Meyyanathan, DMK MLA from Alangudi, of late has been complaining that officials were avoiding him for government functions because he was from the Opposition party. Two other MLAs, S.Raghupathi of Tirumayam, and Periyannan Arasu of Pudukottai were also being given similar treatment, he claimed.


On Saturday, an event was organised at the government school in Tiruvarankulam in Alangudi where Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar was to distribute cycles to students.

Meyyanathan complained to the district CEO. As he was not satisfied by her response, Meyyanathan tried to stage a road blockade.
