BALANGIR : Girl students of a private college, Amar Sahid Samir Jal Women’s College, at Kutrapali village under Loisingha police limits in the district, failed to appear for Plus-Two examination on Tuesday as the college administration did not provide them admit cards.

Apparently, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) had not issued any admit cards as the college was not registered with the Higher Education Department or School and Mass Education Department. The college’s name does not appear under the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) of the Higher Education Department.

The girls and their guardians ransacked the college in protest on Tuesday.  Chairman of the college Anil Jal and other staffers are absconding after School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra ordered an inquiry into the issue.

According to reports, 121 students had enrolled in the college of which, 55 had filed up form to appear for  Plus Two examination.  The students alleged that Jal had taken `7,500 from each of them for appearing for the examination and those who could not deposit the amount, were not allowed to fill up examination application forms.  Jal had collected `4,12,500 from the students.

With the examination approaching, the students demanded admit cards only to be reassured time and again by the authorities that it would be provided to them at the right time. On Tuesday, when the students reached the college, some staff told them that the admit cards had not been issued.

In protest, the girls, accompanied by their parents and locals, ransacked the college and blocked Balanagir-Maharpali road near Maharpali, disrupting traffic on Kutrapalli-Balangir route. The girls alleged that they were assured during the time of admission that the private college is registered.

They called on Additional District Magistrate LP Pradhan and Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra. The students demanded immediate arrest of Jal.
