KOLLAM: A victim of moral policing on Friday lodged a complaint with Sooranad police after her father overheard some unidentified youth conspiring to “threaten” and “intimidate” the girl and destroy the evidence to help their other accomplices who are in jail for the incident.

My father, who they do not know, overheard the plot. They had said that one of the complainants had already committed suicide, and if the other “makes a note of it” it will be easy for their friends who are in jail. However, I will move forward with my complaint and will not deter under any threats, said the victim.

The girl and her friend, Aneesh (24) were accosted by a group of five men at Azheekal beach in Kollam on Valentine’s Day. The accused youth also uploaded a video of the two victims on social media along with a string of abuses and offensive remarks. The victims had filed a complaint with the Kollam city police Commissioner S Satheesh Bino immediately after the incident.

Aneesh, allegedly became more detached and despondent after the incident. He was found hanging from a tree on February 23 and held a Dhanesh Ramesh responsible in his suicide note. Kollam police later arrested the five accused, Biju, Abhilash, Dhanesh, Gireesh and Aneesh.

They were charged under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting),354C (voyeurism), 294B (using obscene words),324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC along with section 119 (punishment for atrocities against woman) of Kerala Police Act and section 66E (punishment for violation of privacy) of IT Act.
