30 candidates lose their deposits in Gautam Budh Nagar constituencies

NOIDA: As many as 30 candidates standing in the 17th assembly election of Uttar Pradesh from the three constituencies of Gautam Budh Nagar have lost their deposits for failing to secure even one-sixth of the total votes polled.
These include the BSP candidate for Noida Ravikant Mishra, Congress candidate for Dadri Sameer Bhati, who was standing for the SP-Congress alliance from the constituency and SP’s Jewar candidate Narendra Nagar.

Only the closest competitors have managed to secure their deposit- an amount of Rs. 10, 000.
According to the rules of the Election Commission of India, a security deposit has to be made by the candidate at the time of filing the nomination.
The same goes to the treasury and is considered forfeited if the candidate fails to get a minimum of one-sixth of the total valid votes polled.
Noida had a total of 14 candidates out of which 12 have failed to secure their deposit.
A total of 254197 votes were polled in Noida out of which BJP candidate Pankaj Singh won 1, 62, 310 votes- 63.85 per cent of the total votes. Only, SP ‘s Sunil Choudhary has managed to save his deposit from Noida. Despite being the third highest gainer, BSP’s Ravikant Mishra has failed to secure his deposit.

In Dadri too, which saw a total of 14 candidates in fray, 12 failed to secure their deposit including Congress’ Sameer Bhati, who was standing for the SP-Congress alliance. Only Satveer Gurjar of the BSP, who was the sitting candidate managed to save his deposit here. A total of 265099 votes were polled in Dadri, out of which BJP’S Tejpal Nagar got 141135 – 53.21 per cent of the total votes.
In a repeat-story Jewar too saw six candidates losing their deposit including SP’s Narendra Nagar.
211292 votes were polled in Jewar out of which BJP’s Thakur Dhirendra Singh won a total of 102931 votes- 48.71 per cent of total votes. Only Vedram Bhati, who was the sitting candidate from the constituency managed to save his deposit.
