The cause of death of a missing Dunnellon man whose body was found in a wooded area in August 2016 has been ruled a homicide, deputies said Wednesday.

Marion County Sheriff's Office detectives received official notification on Tuesday that the cause of manner of death of Eric Danzell Humbert Jr. was a homicide by blunt-force trauma and sharp force injuries.

Humbert's remains were recovered Aug. 20, 2016, in a wooded area north of the intersection of Southwest 162nd Terrace and Southwest 36th Street in Dunnellon by members of the Sheriff's Office's field force unit.

Humbert was reported missing by his family Aug. 14 and was reported missing-endangered by the Sheriff's Office.

Investigators are pursuing active leads.
