Handicrafts our cultural inheritance, need to be preserved: CM Chandrababu Naidu

Handicrafts are our cultural inheritance and they have to be preserved for our posterity, for which everyone needs to own up the responsibility, CM Chandrababu Naidu said.

VIJAYAWADA:Handicrafts are our cultural inheritance and they have to be preserved for our posterity, for which everyone needs to own up the responsibility, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said.  

Inaugurating ‘Akruthi’, a handlooms and handicrafts exhibition organised by the Craft Council of Andhra Pradesh in Vijayawada on Monday, he said such exhibitions are needed to encourage the craftsmen.
The Chief Minister said his government will encourage handlooms and handicrafts and assured to provide financial aid and job security to the weavers and artisans in the State.

“The TDP government will protect and conserve Kondapalli toy-making, Etikoppaka toy-making and Weavers’ Centre in Narasapuram. We will lend a helping hand to artisans and weavers and will ensure Kalamkari art form regains its past glory,” he said.

Naidu was of the opinion that there has been an increase in patronage of the handicrafts and handlooms, as they have become style icons.

The CM said the handicrafts and handlooms of Andhra Pradesh, hold a unique place in the country.
Going round the exhibition accompanied by his wife Nara Bhuvaneswari and showing interest in the miniature art, the Chief Minister said with changing times, artisans need to embrace latest techniques and modern machinery.

Naidu said to promote and encourage handicrafts, tourism and cultural aspects of the particular region need to be understood. He felt that there is a bright future for cultural tourism in the State and handicrafts are but part of the culture.

AP Crafts Council chairman Ranjan, Telangana Crafts Council chairperson Usha Sarvarayalu and others also spoke.
