The situation in and around the district headquarters here which had witnessed sporadic incidents of violence on Tuesday following the fatal attack on a madrassa teacher inside a mosque at Choori on Monday night is returning to normality.
A special police team was constituted to probe the fatal attack on Muhammed Riyas Moulavi, 28, who was sleeping in his room inside the old Juma Masjid. The police team headed by Crime Branch SP A. Sreenivas carried out a thorough search in the mosque and collected details from the office-bearers there. The special team, armed with dog squad, examined the footages that appeared on a CCTV camera set up by two individuals near the mosque premises. The police team later held a closed-door meeting at the SP office to review the progress of the investigation.
The police, who had taken around 20 persons into custody in connection with the violence, were set free on Wednesday. The police could not make any vital leads in the case, Superintendent of Police K.G. Simon said adding that no untoward incidents was reported on Wednesday from the Kasaragod Assembly constituency.
Imams Council demand
Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode: The All-India Imams Council has urged the government to investigate the alleged conspiracy behind the murder of Riyas Moulavi .
A.C. Faisal Moulavi, State committee member of the council, told reporters that Riyas Moulavi reportedly had some issues with a group of Sangh Parivar activists from Madikeri. The police should probe whether this had some thing to do with the murder.
