BAREILLY: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old boy allegedly raped a three-year-old girl by luring her away from her house with the promise of giving her buttermilk. The incident happened at Chandausi in
Sambhal district on Saturday. Hearing girl’s screams, neighbours rushed to her aid, nabbed the accused and handed him over the police. They rushed the girl to hospital.
Police have booked the boy under
POCSO Act and have sent him to jail.
Noticeably, it is the second incident of
sexual assault on a child in a month in the district.
Superintendent of police
Ravi Shankar Chavi told TOI over the phone, “The boy lives in the neighbourhood and both his family and the child’s know each other. When he took the girl with him, it did not arouse any suspicion.”
Surendra Singh Yadav, station officer of Chandausi police station under which the village where the incident took place falls, told TOI, “The accused is an unletterd 12-year-old. His parents are labourers while he sits idle all day long. As the boy is a minor, we cannot interrogate him beyond a point. But he may have fallen into bad company.”
Police said the boy took the girl home on the pretext of giving her buttermilk when no one was at home. There, he allegedly raped her. Hearing her crying, neighbours came to check and the crime scene left them stunned. They immediately called Dial 100 and handed the boy over to the cops before rushing the girl to hospital.
Earlier, on March 5, another minor was raped in Chandausi. The alleged rapist who is in his 40s was nabbed on the spot by villagers.
