BHUBANESWAR: After coming in for strong criticism from opposition political parties for his New Delhi visit when communal violence led to large scale arson at Bhadrak, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced that he will visit the district headquarters town to review the situation.

The CM’s announcement to visit Bhadrak has indicated his changed style of functioning in recent days when he has made efforts to connect with the people. Meanwhile, senior BJD MP Arjun Charan Sethi alleged that inept handling of the situation by the district administration and police led to escalation of violence in Bhadrak town.

Sethi’s statement has come as a major embarrassment for ruling BJD as BJP and Congress are also making similar allegations against police and administration over the violence in Bhadrak. “Had the police and district administration of Bhadrak taken timely action, situation would not have aggravated to this extent,” Sethi told a local television channel.

Sethi said he had brought lapses on the part of the district administration and local police to the notice of the CM, who has assured to take action against those responsible for the violence.
