A 17-year-old girl has been charged with terrorism offences after allegedly preparing to travel to Syria.
The teenager is accused of communicating with a person within the Islamic State terrorist organisation as well as self-radicalising.
She allegedly possessed a flight booking for Istanbul, from where she planned to travel to war-torn Syria.
She was formally charged on Wednesday with the intention of committing acts of terrorism, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The girl appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court where she was remanded until April 28 when she will appear at the Old Bailey.
It follows an investigation by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
A 20-year-old woman who was also arrested as part of the same investigation was subsequently released with no further action.
Both were arrested at an address in central London on 21 August 2016.
