Second government dental college in TN to come up at Virudhunagar

Fulfilling a promise made by J Jayalalithaa in the State Assembly on August 26, 2015, Chief Minister EPS announced that a new government dental college will be started at Virudhunagar.

CHENNAI: Fulfilling a promise made by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the State Assembly on August 26, 2015, Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced that a new government dental college will be started at Virudhunagar.  

This will be the second government dental college in Tamil Nadu, the first being in Chennai.  This has been a long-pending demand of people of southern Tamil Nadu.  
In an official release here, the Chief Minister said 100 students will be admitted to this college, to be established at a cost of `50 crore.  

He also ordered creation of a post of Principal so that preliminary works for this college will commence.  

At present, dental wings are functioning in all medical college hospitals and district hospitals, 152 taluk hospitals and 10 non-taluk hospitals. Besides, dental treatment is being provided in 44 non-taluk hospitals and 249 primary health centres across the State.
