Riots cause Rs nine crore loss to Bhadrak

BHADRAK: Bhadrak town incurred a loss of Rs 9 crore in the communal riots that took place 14 days back, said Collector Gyana Ranjan Das, who submitted damage assessment report to the State Government on Thursday.

He said 450 institutions, including business establishments, godowns and houses were destroyed and property worth Rs 5 crore was looted during the communal tension. Riots were witnessed in 27 Wards under Bhadrak Municipality.

Three religious institutions were also damaged by the rioters.
The district police  arrested 195 people in connection with the riots. The curfew, meanwhile, was relaxed for 14 hours from Thursday, the Collector said.

The town has been limping back to normalcy and if this situation continues, curfew will be lifted from Bhadrak soon, Das added.
