HYDERABAD: Passengers travelling on the
Aurangabad-Hyderabad passenger train had a scary time after the train derailed in
Bidar district early on Friday, triggering panic and causing diversions of many trains. The train carrying over 500 passengers to Hyderabad derailed around 1.50 am, railways authorities said.
At the derailment site, switch expansion joints, plate screws, nuts and brackets of the track were found.
Police dogs were pressed into service to look for clues.
"South Central Railway (SCR) ordered a high-level inquiry to ascertain the cause of derailment by setting up a committee," said
Umashankar Kumar, chief PRO, SCR.
The three derailed coaches and engine were detached and the remaining eight coaches were sent to Kalagapur railway station.
From Kalagpur, special buses were arranged to send the passengers to Bidar railway station, from where they took a connecting train to reach the city. "The train suddenly stopped with a shudder. The kids got scared, but railway authorities were prompt in pacifying us," Sunita M, a passenger told the media.
Two trains were cancelled, five diverted and one train's route was shortened. While
Hyderabad-Purna passenger, Aurangabad - Hyderabad passenger was cancelled, Hyderabad-Aurangabad passenger went till Bidar.
Railway officials from Secundrabad reached the spot to monitor relief measures and supervise the restoration. The work was completed by 4pm on Thursday.
