YERPEDU (Chittoor): C Guruvaiah (33), the drunk truck driver who ploughed his vehicle into a crowd killing 15 people and injuring 18 on Friday, didn't have a heavy motor vehicle licence. Guruvaiah is presently in Yerpedu police custody and has been booked under section 304A of IPC (causing death due to negligence).
"He doesn't even have a Heavy Motor Vehicle license to drive the truck.
Not just that, since the limestone-laden truck was travelling more than 500 km towards Tirupati too lacked a spare driver. Hence, the truck owner A Ramesh from Gudur has been arrested by the police," a police source said.
Meanwhile, most of the injured are out of danger. However, life can never be same for many who have lost their limbs in the deadly accident. Bala Murali Krishna (39), a senior scribe of a Telugu daily, lost both his legs in the Friday's incident. His condition remained critical till 7 pm on Saturday. He lost both his legs while covering the protest of Munagala Palem villagers in Yerpedu.
Meanwhile, panchayat raj minister Lokesh rushed to Yerpedu and called on the injured persons in Tirupati. He announced 12 lakh ex gratia to kin of the each of the 15 deceased.
