MALAPPURAM: A youth was murdered at Karapparamba in Manjeri police station limits on Saturday following a squabble over parking space for an autorickshaw.

According to police, Hassainar Ashiq, 22, from Belloor in Kasargod district was killed by Ahmed Navas at around 10 pm last night following a tiff over limited parking space for one of the autorickshaws driven by the latter.

The duo was working with a Chapati making unit at Karapparamba.

When Navas returned after delivering the Chapatis, he could not park his autorickhshaw in front of the unit. Navas took on Ashiq alleging he did not get space as Ashiq failed to park his vehicle properly. The squabble further led to a physical fight and Navas slit Ashiq's throat with a knife.

The body was sent to Kozhikode Government Medical College for postmortem. Police has taken Navas into custody after registering a case against him.

Ashiq is survived by father Abdullakkunji Haji, mother Beefathima, brothers Ashraf, Arif and Hashim and sisters Ayishath, Fousiya, Mariyam, Farsana, Nafeesath and Rahiyana.
