Maneka Gandhi’s NGO under scanner as three thrashed for transporting buffaloes in Delhi's Kalkaji area

The FIR mentions that the accused are the members of People for Animals but the animal rights body has denied any association with the incident.

NEW DELHI: Two people, allegedly members of NGO People For Animal (PFA) run by Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, were booked on Sunday for beating up three people, who were transporting cattle in a truck.

Delhi Police have registered two FIRs against both—animal rights activists and the three people under the provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

As per the complaint filed by Rizwan, Ashu and Kaamil -those transporting the cattle, the assailants were members of the PFA. However, the animal rights body has denied any association with the incident.

According to the police they received a call from one from Gaurav Gupta, claiming that buffaloes were being transported illegally to Ghazipur. Accompanied by his brother Saurabh few more animal activist arrived in three different cars with PFA stickers and intercepted the truck.

“One of our PFA colleagues, Vandana Sharma, saw the truck carrying buffaloes and intercepted it. My brother then called the police control room to inform them about it. We reached the spot much later. There was already a huge crowd and some people beat up the trio," said Saurabh denying any involvement in the assault.

Meanwhile, Maneka Gandhi's office, denied any link between the incident and the PFA's activities.

"We have no PFA unit in Delhi. We have 10,000 volunteers across the country. Whoever acted did so in their individual capacity," Gandhi's office said.
