Opposition Leader Yitzhak Herzog responded Monday evening to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's ultimatum to German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel about Gabriel's invitations to meet with radical left-wing organizations by saying, "Netanyahu's ultimatum to the German foreign minister is a serious blow to Israel's foreign relations with the largest economy in Europe and a true friend of Israel." The chairman of the Zionist Union continued, "Instead of running away from the campaign, I call on Netanyahu to meet with the German foreign minister and present his views and positions without fear of these or other organizations."
