The police on Monday detained the suspect in the murder of a six-year-old girl in Bengaluru. Anil was picked up from Sedam in Kalaburagi district.

The decomposed body of the Harshitha who was missing for the last four days, was found in a carton in her neighbour's house on Sunday. A special team set up to crack the case detained Anil, a native in Shahpur in Yadgir district on Monday. Anil was working at a stone crushing unit in Veerabhadranagar and was living in a rented house with his wife and an eight-year-old daughter, the police said.

According to police, the victim was from Hosakerehalli, and had come to her grandfather Puttaswamy's house for summer vacations. She used to play with the suspect’s daughter.

A few days ago, Anil’s wife and daughter had left for their native place. On April 20, the girl had come to play at Anil's house when her grandfather, a vegetable vendor, had gone to work. Since the girl did not return home, after a search, Puttaswamy lodged a missing complaint. In the meanwhile, Anil went absconding.

Girinagar police, who launched a massive manhunt for Anil, managed to track him down to his native place and brought him back to the city for further investigations, a senior police officer said. The police are yet to formalise his arrest.
