NEW DELHI: He had a master’s degree in political science, but the dark side seemed to suit Dinesh Yadav as a white collar job eluded him. He joined a local gang and began to commit robberies. Due to his large built, he earned the moniker of Khali in crime circles.
A history-sheeter of Mangolpuri, he had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and had been declared a proclaimed absconder by court.

In 2008, he was caught for the first time while committing a robbery inside a DTC bus in Moti Nagar and sent to Tihar Jail. That was where he decided to progress to bigger crimes. After coming out on bail, Khali brutally murdered his rival, Narendra, after forcibly entering his house.
Yadav was arrested again in 2012, but got bail three years later. But this time he had a different plan. He jumped bail, changed his get-up, took the assumed identity of Arun Soni and began to live in Ghaziabad.
A few months ago, Yadav ended up blowing his cover while drinking with some criminals. He boasted about his moniker Khali and how he was already a big name in crime circles.
The news spread within gangs and finally the law caught up with him.
DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said that a team led by inspector Attar Singh and Jeetendra Tiwari received a tip-off that Khali was trying to lure some criminals to form a gang to commit extortion and robberies.

“We identified Khali’s hideouts and movements through surveillance. On April 23, SI Sandeep came to know that Khali had called an associate at Rithala near Rohini. When he was cornered and asked to surrender, he whipped out a pistol and tried to fire at the cops. He was soon overpowered and arrested,” DCP Yadav said.
Khali told the police that he often remained short of money during his college days as he came from a poor family. When he did not get a job, he began to spend his evenings with anti-social elements of the area.
A gang lured him into joining them and committing robberies in DTC buses. He committed several armed robberies and looted cash from bus passengers.
