Haiti - Politics : The Government in solidarity with the victims of the South
Monday, following the heavy rains that hit particularly the South of Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20744-haiti-flash-heavy-rain-on-the-south-significant-damage-provisional-assessment.html Prime Minister Lafontant at the head of a delegation including Max Rudolph Saint-Albin Minister of the Interior and Local Government and Roosevelt Bellevue, the Minister of Social Affairs went to the scene to assess the situation and plan the response.

Arrived early in Les Cayes, the Prime Minister chaired a high level meeting with the local authorities and some NGOs working in the field of risk management in the communes of the department, in order to have the first data on the extent of the damage.

Several localities and affected state institutions were visited, including the National Center of Equipment (CNE) and the Immaculate Conception Hospital of Les Cayes. The banks of the river Acul, more precisely in Ducis and the gully of South, in Camp-Perrin.

The Minister Saint Albin called on local authorities to make arrangements during the remainder of the rainy season and in anticipation of the hurricane season that will begin on June.

During his tour the Prime Minister promised to take account of the situation of the great South in the amending budget... The Head of Government, who inscribed this displacement in the framework of solidarity with the affected populations, also announced that "the entire Government is in motion to better harmonize the interventions and take the necessary measures to alleviate the victims [...] Several thousand hygiene and food kits, as well as tarpaulins, bottles of treated water, water purification tablets, among others, will be distributed pending a more structured intervention by the Government."
