Newcastle United should use Henri Saivet as bait to sign 12 assist Gylfi Sigurdsson

The Senegal midfielder does not appear to have a future at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United have recently earned promotion to the Premier League and will be looking to improve the side ahead of their return to the top-flight.

One player they have recently been linked with is Swansea City midfield star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Swansea may be switching places with Newcastle next season, as they currently fight relegation from the Premier League. If they do go down it will be of no fault to the Icelandic star. He has 12 assists and eight goals in the league this season, in what has been a brilliant individual campaign.

The Sun report he could cost around £15 million, but could Newcastle United use one of their flop signings to sweeten a deal.

Henri Saivet was signed from Bordeaux in January last year for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to be in the region of around £4.5 million. He played just four times for the club and was sent on loan to French side Saint-Etienne.

They do not want to keep him and Saivet is looking like a spare part at St James’ Park.

Wales Online reported in 2015 that Saivet was a transfer target for the Swans. Newcastle could kill two birds with one stone in this deal. They could get their hands on a top talent in Sigurdsson, and also remove Saivet from the club’s wage-bill, all whilst lowering the price-tag Swansea will demand for their superstar.
