JSW steel plant likely to come up on Posco land in Jagatsinghpur

JSW Steel Limited is likely to set up a 10 million tonne capacity steel plant in Odisha, possibly on the land acquired for the Posco steel project in Jagatsinghpur district.

BHUBANESWAR: JSW Steel Limited is likely to set up a 10 million tonne capacity steel plant in Odisha, possibly on the land acquired for the Posco steel project in Jagatsinghpur district.

JSW chief Sajjan Jindal informed this after a meeting with Chief Secretary AP Padhi here on Friday. “We are interested to set up a 10 mtpa steel plant in Odisha. I discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary,” Jindal told mediapersons.

Asked whether the company will set up the plant on the land near Paradip acquired for Posco project, Jindal said, “Posco site is one of the possibilities. We are examining locations in different places including one near Paradip.”

Jindal, after a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a business meet in Bengaluru earlier last year, had expressed his desire to set up a mega steel plant in Odisha.

The company is likely to invest Rs 50,000 crore for the 10 mtpa steel mill and a 900 MW capacity power plant.

The State level single window clearance authority had cleared nine projects on March 25 including two from JSW and recommended it to the high-level clearance authority headed by the CM.
