CBI books serving Colonel, wife over Rs 1cr illegal assets

PUNE: The CBI’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has booked a serving Colonel and his wife for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The assets are estimated to be to the tune of Rs 1 crore.
In its FIR, the CBI has stated that the officer earned the assets between January 1, 2008, and March 27, 2017, during postings in Pune and Jammu, and in Rajasthan.
The officer is currently posted with the 516 Army Service Corps (ASC), Battalion 16, which is attached with the Southern Western Command of Army.
According to CBI sources, in 2009, the officer served as the catering officer of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and was later transferred to Jammu. After serving there for two years, he was transferred to Sriganganagar. The CBI has gathered information about the officer’s and his wife’s expenditures and savings, as well as the assets owned by them, as part of the investigation so far. It has found multiple bank accounts of the duo in various banks.
The CBI sources said searches would soon be conducted at various places, including Haryana, by its teams, as it pursues the case. “We have registered an FIR. Our investigation is under way. At this juncture, I cannot comment further on the case,” superintendent of police M R Kadole of the CBI said.
