Two children killed, 24 hurt as van overturns in Visakhapatnam

Two children died and 24 were injured when a van in which they were travelling overturned on the ghat road near Luthupeta area.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two children died and 24 were injured when a van in which they were travelling overturned on the ghat road near Luthupeta area of Annavaram police station limits in Visakhapatnam agency at around 7.30 am on Sund when the villagers were going to a weekly market at Korukonda.

The deceased have been identified as K Ganesh (12) and G Narasinga Rao (14). While Ganesh died on the spot, Narasinga Rao succumbed while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Of the injured, 10 who received grievous injuries were shifted to Narsipatnam area hospital.

According to Chintapalli DSP Anil Kumar, the van was heading to Korukonda area from Paderu. All passengers are traders, who after attending a weekly market on Saturday at G Madugula, were moving to another market at Korukonda on Sunday morning. 

The driver lost control over the wheels while negotiating with a sharp bend near Luthupeta, resulting in the overturning of the vehicle.
A case has been registered at Annavaram police station.
