COIMBATORE: THE Nilgiris District Police are exploring legal possibilities for contacting AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala and party deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran to assess what all things could have been robbed from the Kodanad Estate bungalow. The move comes as several rumours about the stolen items are doing the rounds.

“In the initial stages of the investigation, we thought the gang had not taken away anything from the bungalow,” said a senior police officer said, adding, “But after nabbing some of those involved, we found that they had taken five watches and a crystal piece by breaking open some rooms, including those of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Sasikala.”

He said they are exploring the possibilities of meeting Sasikala and Dhinakaran in person to find what valuables were there in the rooms and determine what was actually taken away by the gang. “They are the persons who know about the bungalow and the things kept there,” the officer said.

It was in the wee hours of April 23 that a gang of robbers forced their way into the bungalow by killing a security guard. The police managed to find that an 11-member gang was behind the crime. Eight of them have been arrested so far.

The prime accused and former driver of Jayalalithaa, C Kanagaraj died in an accident recently. Another accused, K V Sayan, also suffered grievous injuries in a separate accident. He is being treated at a private hospital in Coimbatore. One person wanted in the case is yet to be arrested.

Nilgiris SP Murali Rambha said the police would investigate all aspects of the case. “We are trying to trace the man who is yet to be arrested. We are concerned about the condition of Sayan. He is still under treatment. Once he gets well, we will question him and get the details,” the SP said.

Nilgiris Police say Sasikala and Dhinakaran know about the bungalow and the things kept there. Rumours can be dealt with by getting info from them
