KOPPAL: Sharanamma Kari from Madnal village in Kushtagi of Koppal used to get affectionate scolding from her mother Shantavva for getting engrossed in filling-up forms all the time for various competitive examinations.

Shantavva would insist on her daughter becoming a tahsildar, so that disputes over agriculture fields in rural areas could be addressed.

Sharanamma’s father Dyamanna is an agriculturist, but his field in the village is involved in a dispute. Shantavva and Dyamanna have four sons and two daughters, including Sharanamma.

“The words of my mother in 2010 influenced me immensely,” Sharanamma told Express. She bagged the 16th rank in the 2014 KPSC examinations for gazetted probationers’ posts.

However, success had its long and frequent ups and downs. After graduating from a private college in Bagalkot, she completed post-graduation from Karnatak University, Dharwad, as an external student.

She was selected as panchayat development officer in 2009, but she rejected it as she wanted to become a tahsildar. Besides, she rejected the post of teacher in a Morarji Desai Residential school in 2009 itself.

She also served as a superintendent in KSRTC for a year in 2010 only to fulfil her mother’s dream of becoming a tahsildar.

Though she had gone through successfully in the 2011 KPSC exams and she was selected as commercial tax officer, she rejected this post too. She did not give up her efforts to become a tahsildar.
She appeared for the 2014 KPSC exams and secured 16th rank in state-level. The results were announced in April. Now, she is all set to become a tahsildar.

“Now, I have a sense of achievement and satisfaction as I am fulfilling my mother’s dream,” Sharanamma told Express. Her parents also expressed happiness over their daughter’s achievement and advised her to serve people with honesty and sincerity.
