LUCKNOW:
FICCI FLO Lucknow Kanpur chapter partnered with
WaterAid and the
Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) through their project for weavers- Bankeloom at Saidanpur village in district Barabanki to create awareness about women's health.
Jyotsna Kaur Habibullah, FLO, head of village initiatives, Lucknow coordinated the initiative with Water Aid and DEF and Neelima Gupta, MHM coordinator, Vatsalya, WaterAid Lucknow who is an expert trainer to facilitate the orientation and provide relevant materials to adolescent girls in the village.
FLO Lucknow Kanpur said that it is committed to empowering women at all levels from the grassroots level. Every year, the world observes May 28 as Menstrual Hygiene Day globally to call attention to and normalize menstruation. This year, WaterAid India along with the partners is planning a large-scale social media activity called ‘Thunderclap’ to advocate for menstrual hygiene.
Thunderclap is a social crowd funding tool, whereby supporters ‘donate’ a Tweet or a Facebook post to help spread the word on important issues. “WaterAid and our partners see Thunderclap as a powerful platform to garner widespread support to break the silence around menstruation and menstrual hygiene”, said the association.
It added, “The message we will be highlighting through the Thunderclap is- There is #noshame in menstruation. Join us on #MHDay in ending stigma around periods.”
This message will be linked to a call to action (CTA) that will direct supporters to a microsite on WaterAid India's website with two calls to action: Share your period story of change (Tweet with the hashtag #noshame) and Join the Conversation (Social Media Page Links).
A number of influential government and non-profit organizations from around the world are expected to support this action including FLO, UNICEF, WSSCC, and the Department of Women and Child Development in Madhya Pradesh.
FLO is the women wing of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The primary objective of FLO is to promote entrepreneurship and professional excellence in women. The activities that are organized deal primarily with developing entrepreneurship, disseminating business-related information, and enhancing skills of women at all levels.
