Turkey detains 53 immigration seekers

ISTANBUL, May 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish Coast Guards detained 53 persons who were trying to reach the Greek islands illegally, the official Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.
The immigration seekers made the bid from the western Turkish region Aydin.
Anadolu news agency said the detainees included 44 Afghans and seven Syrians.
Turkey and the European Union had signed an agreement allowing EU governments to send back illegal immigrants crossing into Europe from Turkey, in exchange for dropping visa requirements for Turks visiting Europe. (end) ta.rk
