LUCKNOW: Chief minister Adityanath Yogi’s emphasis on making the state trash-free nothwithstanding, government’s own departments failed to make arrangements for garbage disposal at bhandaras they organized on the third Bada Mangal.
A reality check by TOI found that most of the bhandaras organized by various government departments had dustbins only in name. There was no system to check if people were using them.
As a result, public continued to throw used disposables on roadside. “There was just one dustbin at the bhandara outside Krishi Bhawan and over 1,000 people were served. Soon, the dustbin was overflowing,” said Nirmal Gupta, a bank employee.
A similar sight could be seen outside Indira Bhawan, Jawahar Bhawan and Gandhi Bhawan where large bhandaras had been set up.
The bhandara organized by Jal Nigam in Aliganj was one such place. Till late evening the place was littered with disposables and even rotten food.
LMC’s additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava said, “It cannot be achieved by one organization’s efforts. These departments should also contribute.”
