Boys outshine girls in ICET '17, Suryapet lad emerges topper

HYDERABAD: With nine out of top 10 ranks being secured by the boys, they clearly outperformed the girls in the Telangana State Integrated Common Entrance Test (TSICET), the results for which were declared on Wednesday.When it comes to the overall pass percentage, boys fared slightly better at 97.23% as against 97.11% of girls clearing the exam.
Erukulla Somashekar from Suryapet district bagged the first rank by scoring 166 marks, while Hyderabad boy Raag Khandelwal came second with 156 marks, followed by Rutwik Prabhat Annadanam at the third position with 155 marks.

Hyderabad district fared a tad better than other districts as 37,819 candidates of the 38,727 that appeared for the test from Hyderabad cleared the exam, adding up to a pass percentage of 97.66%.Karimnagar stood at the bottom of the charts with a qualifying percentage of 96.15%.
However, taking into con sideration the background of students, those having a B TechBE degree did exceptionally well with 99.40% boys and 99.39% girls qualifying in the entrance test, followed by students having Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) degrees.
Speaking at the results release here on Wednesday, T Papi Reddy, chairperson, Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) said that the counselling dates to fill the MBA and MCA seats in the state will be announced once all the universities have released their affiliation list.
“We haven't received the list of affiliated colleges for the academic year 2017-18.Once we receive the list from all the varsities, we will an nounce counselling dates to fill seats not just in MBA MCA colleges, but also for engineering, pharmacy, and other streams,“ said Reddy, adding that candidates can download their rank cards from the TSCHE website from June 4 onwards.

Giving a rough figure of the number of seats up for grabs, ICET 2017 convener K Om Prakash said that just like last year, this year too a little over 25,000 seats will be available.
“As the affiliation list is not yet released, we don't have the exact figures. However, from what we have seen, abo ut 25,000 seats should be available. Last year, in the convener quota, a total of 24,557 seats were made available, of which 92% seats were filled up,“ the convener said.
Warangal's Kakatiya University conducted the test on behalf of TSCHE on May 18 in 132 centers across the state.
