LUCKNOW: Even at the end of the
season of Bada Mangals,
Lucknow Municipal Corporation failed to make people sensitive towards using dustbins and not littering the roads. TOI has written continuously about lack of waste management, while people continued to dispose of paper plates and leftover food on roads on Tuesday.
In major localities including Chowk, Kaiserbagh, University Road, Hazratganj, Jopling Road and Gomtinagar, there was heavy littering.
Being the last
Bada Mangal, stalls were set up leaving little space for traffic movement. The chaos increased with large heaps of waste dumped along roadsides, causing inconvenience to passersby.
The stretch on Ashok Marg from Sikanderabagh to GPO crossing and Sapru Marg was littered and there was not a single dustbin in sight. Rajeshwari Deenyal said, “It was difficult to move on roads in the vicinity of KD Singh Stadium and La Martiniere Girls’ College as the crowd had littered the road. Why can’t they use dustbins?” On Lohia Path in Gomtinagar there were heaps of
bhandara trash next to Fun Republic Mall. Vishal Khand resident Sam Ahmad said, “The ground was slippery because of food plates thrown around and the scooter I was riding almost slipped on Lohia Path.”
LMC claimed it is very difficult to manage huge waste on religious occasions.
