Heavy rain in Bidar, Kalaburagi districts

Heavy rain lashed Bidar and Kalaburagi districts and other parts of the state on Tuesday. In the past 24 hours, Bidar taluk has received 128 mm of rainfall. Consequently, the inflow to Manjra river has increased.

In Bidar town, rainwater inundated several roads. In the old city, the movement of vehicles was affected for some time as rainwater overflowed on a road in the area. Similarly, vehicular movement was affected on a bridge at Chitaguppa following rain near Belakera.

The maximum rainfall reported from different taluks of the district are as follws: Aurad - 88 mm, Bhalki - 55 mm, Basavakalyan - 26 mm and Humnabad - 52 mm. Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed Kalaburagi district from Monday night till the wee hours of Tuesday. The downpour led to increase in the inflow of the dams across the district.

Water was released from all seven gates of Bennethora dam on Tuesday following copious rainfall in the catchment areas of the river Bennethora in the state and in the neighbouring Maharashtra. The live storage in the dam stood at 438.72 m against the full reservoir level of 438.89 m. The inflow was 6,060 cusecs while the outflow was 2,330 cusecs. The inflow into the Amarja dam was 1,775.45 cusecs, Gandori Nala dam-2,245.37 cusecs and Lower Mullamari dam-2,330 cusecs.

Meanwhile, moderate rain lashed Karwar, Ankola and Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district on Tuesday evening. Cloudy weather prevailed in Honnavar, Kumta, Dandeli, Siddapur and Haliyal. Up to 8 am on Tuesday, the district had received 414 mm of rainfall. 

Kodagu district received moderate rainfall. Ponnampet, Hudikerei, B Shettigeri, Nalluru, Balele, Gudugalale, Keralli, Moodaravalli, Bageri, Gopalapura and Elaneerugundi received good rain. The water level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,819.62 feet. The maximum storage level of the reservoir is 2,859 feet. The inflow of water was 800 cusecs. Water inflow at KRS, Kabini and Hemavathy reservoirs also increased following rain.

Rain receded in Mangaluru on Tuesday.  Tunga dam at Gajanur near Shivamogga district was short of just one metre to reach the maximum level on Tuesday, following a good spell of rain in Thirthahalli and Sringeri region. The water level in the dam rose to 587.27 metres against the maximum level of 588.24 metres. Apart from this, moderate rain lashed several parts of the district.
