LUCKNOW: A couple was found dead in their home in Barabanki on Tuesday morning. Police suspect they were poisoned and are questioning their son.
Residents of Bhauli village, Suresh Gupta (65) stayed with wife Rampyari (62), son Amit (24) and daughter-in-law Shilpa. The couple also had three daughters who are married and stay with their husbands.
Gupta was a retired Rajasthan government employee.
Ram Sanehi Ghat police said the bodies were found on the bed on the ground floor of the house.
Some used plates were lying on the table. There was no sign of forced entry.
A milkman raised an alarm when Gupta did not answer the door in the morning. Amit stepped down from the first floor where he was with his wife and said he knew nothing of the incident.
Ram Sanehi Ghat circle officer DySP Javed Khan said the couple was apparently served poisoned-laced food items. Police are checking the utensil in which Shilpa had cooked food on Monday night.
“We are waiting for the postmortem report and will register a case of murder. Amit is being interrogated as his sisters have pointed fingers at him. We suspect his involvement as no outsider was present in the house,” said Khan.
According to the police, Amit often quarrelled with his father over not selling assets and giving him money. His parents had also opposed his marriage to Shilpa.
Zonal additional director general of police Abhay Prasad visited the spot on Tuesday noon.
