Praising the efforts of Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in launching 10 railway projects on a single day here on Thursday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu urged the Union Minister to intensify efforts to set up a railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters.

Union Ministers Suresh Prabhu, M Venkaiah Naidu and P Ashok Gajapathi Raju participated in a function here on Thursday where railway projects were launched through video link.

The Railway Minister flagged off three trains, including Hamsafar Express at the railway station.

The Chief Minister appealed to the Union Minister to take a decision and announce the Visakhapatnam railway zone soon.

The Chief Minister expressed happiness over launching of the railway projects including flagging off of Vijayawada-Howrah Hamsafar weekly express, Tirupati-Jamutavi weekly super fast train, sanctioning of mechanised laundry at Tirupati, three-phase electric locomotive simulator, doubling of Gutti-Dharmavaram and Guntakal-Rayachur-Wadi line, Vijayawada-Gudivada, Bhimavaram-Machilipatnam and Narasapur-Nidadavole sections. He sought rail connectivity to the new capital, Amaravati. He said the state government was ready to reduce power tariff to the railways.

Suresh Prabhu said Andhra Pradesh was ahead of others in development of railways. Stating that Andhra Pradesh would emerge as a logistics hub, he said the projects would be taken up at a cost of ₹1.31 lakh crore. He promised rail connectivity to Amaravati.
