VISAKHAPATNAM :The southwest monsoon became vigorous over Rayalaseema, but remained active over coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Heavy rain occurred at isolated places over the coastal AP and  Rayalaseema. 


About 11 cm rainfall was recorded at Palakoderu in West Godavari district and Amalapuram in East Godavari district, followed by Aspari in Kurnool (8 cm), Chapad in Kadapa (7 cm). Badvel in Kadapa, Gudivada in Krishna district, Narsipatnam and  Yelamanchili in Visakhapatnam district, Tuni in East Godavari, Chimakurthi in Prakasam, Narsapur in West Godavari, Avanigada in Krishna, Salur in Vizianagaram, Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam, Bapatla in Guntur and Bheemavaram in West Godavari districts recorded precipitation of 6 cm. Other areas over the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseem recieved a rainfall in the range between 3 and 4 cm. 


A low pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood now lies over southwest Bangladesh and an associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level. The trough on sea level chart now runs from Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu across Telanagana and Rayalaseema. 


“The weather system is likely to bring in heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and moderate rains over Rayalaseema in the next 24 hours,” said a report by IMD. 
As per the IMD, Hyderabad, heavy to very heavy rains are very likely to occur at isolated places and thunderstorm activity in the coastal AP in the next 48 hours. 

Officials told to stay put in respective HQs
In the wake of the heavy rain forecast, tehsildars, RDOs, line departments have been instructed to stay put at their respective headquarters and monitor the situation. The higher-ups have asked them to take necessary precautions. In case of any untoward incident, they have been instructed to bring it the notice of the respective district administration immediately.
