Police nab mother-son suspected traffickers over syabu seizure

LAHAD DATU: It appears that Mother may not always know best as was the case when the police mounted a drug raid at a house in Kampung Puyut near here early last Saturday.
There, a police narcotics team arrested a woman and her teenage son, suspected to be drug traffickers in connection with the seizure of 3,080g of syabu worth RM225,000.
Initial investigations revealed that the house had served as a nest for drug trafficking activities with the 52-year-old mother and 19-year-old son allegedly calling the shots.
Lahad Datu police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the suspects were picked up in an integrated operation dubbed 'Ops Sarang' (Operation Nest) about 5am.
He said the police found two plastic packets containing crystal pieces believed to be syabu, weighing 2,060 and 1,020g respectively, in a black bag at one of the rooms of the house.
"Also found were three brown adhesive tapes, (empty) plastic packets, a black container with two green plastic spoons, three modified straws, digital weighing scale and plastic bowl," he told reporters here today.
The woman and her son were remanded for seven days beginning yesterday.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said the police stumbled on syabu weighing 520 grammes in a paint can during a raid at a garage near Kampung Bakau last Friday.
The drug was worth RM50,000.
Barely four hours after the 5.30am incident, the police nabbed a 37-year-old foreigner to facilitate investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985. — Bernama
