YOUNG gun Jess Anstiss has capped a remarkable debut season with West Coast Fever by being named the club’s most valuable player.

Anstiss upstaged her more experienced teammates on Fever’s big night at Fraser’s Kings Park to take out the main award in a year that yielded just two wins in the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season.

The 20-year-old was used off the bench in the opening rounds but moved to wing defence when Shannon Eagland’s season was ended by a knee injury.

Anstiss, who will represent Australia at next month’s World Youth Cup, polled 52 votes to win the trophy ahead of goalkeeper Courtney Bruce (41) and vice-captain Verity Charles (37).

Coach Stacey Marinkovich lauded the achievement.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a more complete or impressive debut season than what Jess has produced across 14 rounds this year,” Marinkovich said.

“She has thrived on the challenge of facing some of the world’s best players on a weekly basis and has proven beyond any doubt that she belongs at this level.”

Bruce underlined her popularity by taking out the PerthNow People's Choice award.
